Amanda Tozer

Career summary

Amanda received her degree from the University of Wales, College of Medicine in 1990 and began her career in Reproductive Medicine during her general training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in 1997. She was clinical fellow for 4 years, completing 2 years of research into ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), and then went on to subspecialty training in Reproductive Medicine and minimal access surgery from 2001-2004.

In 2004, Amanda became a consultant at St Bartholomew’s Hospital ("Barts") and was Lead Clinician and Person Responsible to the UK Regulator (the HFEA) from 2004 to 2012. In this role, she developed and managed the service and set up a donor sperm bank. She is a trainer in both ultrasound scanning and embryo transfer, and whilst at Barts, became a trainer for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists for Subspecialty Training.

Amanda has 20 years’ experience in the management of couples with sub-fertility and also has experience in the surgical management of sub-fertility including the surgery for endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, hydrosalpinges and uterine adhesions, polyps and fibroids which my cause problems. Amanda believes in the individualisation of treatment and offers a sensible and realistic approach to couples to achieve their goal of having a baby.

Amanda has written about and presented at national and international conferences on sub-fertility, and has over 15 publications focusing on topics varying from minimally invasive surgery in ectopic pregnancies, to the relevance of basal serum FSH to patient age in IVF outcomes.
