How long should I try to get pregnant before seeing my doctor?
How long should I try to get pregnant?
Despite what we’re told about unprotected sex, it can take longer than you’d expect for a perfectly healthy couple to conceive.
After a certain amount of time, it’s worth booking in to see a doctor to check that everything is working as it should:
- If you’re 35 or younger and have been actively trying for a baby for a year without conceiving, make an appointment.
- If you’re 35 or over and have been actively trying for a baby for 6 months without conceiving, make an appointment.
If you are planning a pregnancy and have a medical history of any of the following, speak to your GP so you can get the right advice early in your journey:
- polycystic ovary syndrome
- fibroids
- irregular periods
- thyroid disease
- a sexually transmitted infection, such as chlamydia
